| The spring has begun early this year with an un-seasonally warm August and September peppered with frosts. This has caused earlier than normal bud burst and a high level of anxiety due to the frosts. Some vineyards have been using their windmills and helicopters.
The winery has been very busy bottling for the large number of containers that have gone out lately. The Rieslings are ready for filtering and the boys in the winery are very pleased indeed with the ’09 vintage.
The vineyard staff are busy with frost protection as bud burst has occurred in the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. They are also busy with soil preparation between the rows for the management of weeds.
The office staff have been on the case with international orders, production of sales material, packaging and general business keeping them occupied.
Mark Jones had a busy week on the domestic sales front last week. He was assisted by Jamie Davidson who has joined our Sales Team on a part time basis. He will be assisting Mark Jones when he is not working in the winery or in the vineyards. Today Mark headed overseas for a three week trip to Canada and the USA.
On the staff front there was a Laverique tasting held last week. They tasted the 2006 and 2008 vintage. Both were pronounced “wicked” by all. The 2006 should be released by the end of the year. There is also a Sherwood Cycling Team performing on the Canterbury hills and plains. They went out for their first “team ride” last Thursday….photo of this group of “Energizer Bunnies” is attached!! They are in training for the Molesworth Muster in November. An 80 km mountain bike event…….good luck to them I say!!
