HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2009 will be a very challenging year for all of us but we will just carry on doing what we do best….making good wine!
All the staff have returned from their holidays and it is now…. back to work!!
The hot, dry summer continues and the season is looking very good. However, we have had some wild summer storms in Canterbury recently and some of the vineyards have sustained a loss of fruit due to hail. The vineyard staff are busily checking the vineyards to see what damage has been done. They are also tucking, trimming and preparing the vineyards for netting. Marlborough and Waipara harvest times are usually staggered, but this season it looks as though they will be ready at the same time. This could cause some logistical issues in the winery during harvest. We will just have to wait and see if Marlborough catches up and we have our usual two week gap between harvests.
Matt and Jason are busy in the winery emptying tanks, bottling, keeping up with orders and the blending of the Waipara Pinot Noir. The final disgorgement of the 2004 Laverique has been completed and the boys say that you will be very lucky if they let you have any of it……it is magnificent!!!
